CT state police cruiser struck by stray tire from tractor-trailer on I-95

A state police cruiser was struck by a tire that fell off a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in Greenwich Thursday.

The trooper’s cruiser was parked on I-95 North in the area of Exit 5, where he was conducting a motor vehicle stop at about 2:47 a.m., when a tractor-trailer drove by and lost a tire from its trailer, according to Connecticut State Police.

The tire struck the rear of the police cruiser, which the trooper was seated in at the time, and damaged the vehicle.

State police said no injuries were reported.

Investigators are looking for information on the tractor-trailer involved and are asking any witnesses to contact Troop G at 203-696-2500.
