Pundit questions the ambition of player joining Tottenham this summer
According to Dean Saunders, Manor Solomon is unlikely to play much football for Tottenham Hotspur next season if Harry Kane remains at the club.
New Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has wasted little time in transforming his squad, with the acquisitions of Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison already secured this summer.
Somewhat surprisingly, it seems Postecoglou’s next move is to add a new attacker to his squad.
It was revealed over the weekend that an agreement had been reached to sign Manor Solomon on a free transfer (Fabrizio Romano).
The 23-year-old’s agent recently told Sport5 that he expects the deal to be concluded by Thursday, when the player is set to complete his medical with Spurs.
Solomon will join a squad which already boasts the attacking talents of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison.
That is, if Kane does not secure his move to Bayern Munich as discussions continue (Rudy Galetti for GiveMeSport).
Manor Solomon will sit on the bench
Speaking to talkSPORT (03/07/23), Dean Saunders suggested Solomon may be set for a lengthy spell on the Spurs bench as he would be playing back up to Harry Kane next season.
He said: “It depends. If you keep Harry Kane, then you need someone who is prepared to come and sit on the bench. Then wait until Harry gets injured and step in for cup games or whatever.
“It’s difficult when you are trying to persuade a striker to come to Spurs, isn’t it? What are you going to say? ‘No, you’re not going to play. Harry Kane is going to play. But when you get your chance, then you can take it.’
“Most strikers would go with something where they are going to start every week at another club, so I am not sure [about Solomon].”
Spurs Web Opinion
I don’t think Manor Solomon is under any illusions as to the challenge which awaits him at Tottenham but according to his agent, that is why he chose this move.
Yes, players want to play, but they also want to compete at the very top and improve their game by working with the best players.
