Yankees star outfielder Aaron Judge remains on the injured list with a torn ligament in his toe that he suffered at Dodger Stadium on June 3 when he made a spectacular catch, running through the outfield fence and injuring his toe in the process.
The injury was a bit of a freak accident, as Judge tore the ligament in his toe after ramming it against a concrete step that separated the bullpen and the field of play. However, Judge is not seeking any sort of legal action against the ballpark for the incident.
While it sounds outlandish to file a lawsuit for an injury suffered in a baseball game, it would not be totally unprecedented. Judge was asked about a lawsuit because former Yankee Dustin Fowler sued the White Sox and Illinois Sports Facilities Authority after he ran into a concealed electrical box that injured him in June of 2017. The electrical box ruptured Fowler’s right patellar tendon.
Fowler ultimately settled with the White Sox and the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority last year.
As for Judge, there is no timetable for his return, but he said that he expects the injury to have lingering effects throughout the rest of the season once he does re-enter the lineup.
Prior to the injury, Judge was hitting .291 with 19 home runs and 40 RBI in the first year of a nine-year, $360 million contract he signed in free agency to remain in pinstripes.
