Haircut1000The Sunday Times ran a long article today about bananas. The standard banana we all eat is a variety cultivated in the 1830s in a massive greenhouse in Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.
The greenhouse was designed by a bloke called Josoph Paxton and a quick Google revealed that all the glass was made by Birmingham glass manufacturers Chance Brothers.
I wish us Brummies would blow our own trumpet a bit more.
Is that our claim to fame then? That a company in Birmingham made glass for a greenhouse that early bananas grew in? Christ.
