Little League: Mill Valley, Twin Cities claim championships
The Mill Valley 11s and the Twin Cities 9-10s Little League All Stars teams capped District 3 bracket play with championship victories at Joe Wagner Field in Larkspur on Sunday.
Mill Valley (9-0) ran through the competition, outscoring their opposition by a combined score of 100-5. Mill Valley needed just three innings to claim the title following a 15-0 victory against Novato North.
Graziano Cerchiai had two hits and drove in a game-high four runs to pace Mill Valley, which scored three innings in the opening frame before breaking the game open with nine runs in the second.
Levi Weber also had multiple hits for Mill Valley and drove in three runs. Charlie Davies hit leadoff with a single, two RBIs and two runs scored.
During its run through All Stars play, Mill Valley was only really tested in Saturday’s semifinal — a 3-1 victory against Novato South.
Mill Valley’s roster is comprised of Cerchiai, Davies, Weber, Gray Getty, Beckett Glynn , Oscar Karlen, Davis Marshall, Kadin Mokari, Rory Murphy, Jack Payne, Leo Tenenbown, Remi Thill, Hudson Wayne, and Brodie Williams. The team is managed by Brian Murphy who is assisted by Steve Marshall and Clark Weber.
The Twin Cities 9-10s team authored a similarly dominant 9-0 run throughout All Star play, capping its triumph with a 12-4 win against Novato North in the title game.
Twin Cities was fueled by a quick start, scoring five runs in the first inning and three more in the third to take an 8-2 lead. Novato North pulled within 8-4 in the top of the fifth only to see Twin Cities score four more times in the bottom of the frame for the final margin.
Danny Searle and Jack Meyer led the way offensively with two hits apiece — Searle driving in three runs and Meyer knocking in a pair. Dylan Christensen and Naren Atkins also drove in two runs apiece. Leadoff hitter James Sternberg drew three walks and came around to score two runs.
Meyer also started the game on the mound, working 3.2 innings while allowing three hits and two runs (one earned).
All told, Twin Cities piled up 117 runs in nine games while allowing just nine runs to score — highlighted by a four-game stretch during which Twin Cities outscored opponents 59-0.
The Twin Cities roster features Naren Atkins, Rho Atkins, Oliver Brown, Christensen, Will Olmstead, Meyer, Santiago Saeltzer, Wyatt Schaefer, Searle, Sternberg, Brady Stone, and Auggie Zola-Kahn. Levi Pollard, Sam Strasburg, Jared Weinberg are named as alternates. The team is managed by Ted Meyer, Jr., with assistants Jay Sternberg, Danny Searle, and Jon Stone.
