Afghanistan: Over 11,000 Criminal Cases Registered in Past Year

Taliban’s Ministry of Interior announced that criminal cases have sharply declined compared to that of previous years, adding 12, 800 cases were registered over the past year.

Abdul Matin Qaneh, the spokesperson of the interior ministry on Saturday said that 16,600 people were arrested who were convicted of criminal cases in the past year, according to Bakhatar news agency.

Referring to the statistics, Mr. Qaneh stressed that, “overall criminal incidents have dropped throughout the country compared to the previous years.”

According to the ministry, recording 12,000 criminal cases in the past year is way lower than what it used to be prior to the return of the Taliban to power in August 2021.

Taliban officials have added that corruption, evading the law, coercion and turning the law to personal interests had led to a sharp rise in the crime level during the former government.

According to the Taliban’s ministry of interior, the detention of 11,800 criminals accused of committing different crimes led to a major decline in crime levels across the country.

Previously, the interior ministry had reported of recording nearly 12,000 criminal cases in the country.

This comes as armed killings and theft in different parts of the country have unprecedentedly increased, causing serious concerns among civilians.
