Shares are mostly higher in Europe and Asia as investors wait for an update on U.S. inflation. Benchmarks rose in Paris, London, Frankfurt, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Tokyo and Sydney declined. U.S. futures and oil prices declined. China reported wholesale prices fell 5.4% in June, suggesting a further weakening of demand in many industries. On Friday Wall Street drifted to a mixed close after data suggested the U.S. job market is still warm enough to keep the economy growing but maybe not so hot that it stokes inflation much higher. The S&P 500 fell 0.3%. Friday’s report showed American employers added fewer jobs in June than in May, close to economists’ expectations.
