DeSantis is getting stomped out by Trump in the place he can least afford to lose: report

The last several weeks have been rough on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' presidential campaign, despite the fact that his chief rival for the Republican Party's presidential nomination has been charged with dozens of felonies.

Now the South Florida Sun-Sentinel brings word that a new poll from Florida Atlantic University/Mainstreet Research/PolCom Lab shows that Trump is leading DeSantis in the Florida governor's own state by a whopping 20 points.

Specifically, the poll shows that 50 percent of Republican primary voters in the Sunshine State are backing Trump, compared to just 30 percent backing DeSantis.

In a statement analyzing the results, FAU political scientist Kevin Wagner argued that they show Trump "does especially well with white working-class voters, who have consistently formed a steadfast base for the former president."

Trump is far and away the Republican frontrunner despite the fact that the party lost the House under his watch in 2018, lost both the presidency and the Senate under his watch in 2020, and were denied a golden opportunity to win back the Senate last year after several of his handpicked candidates crashed and burned in the general election.

Trump also currently faces a slew of legal problems, including a civil lawsuit over allegedly fraudulent business practices from New York Attorney General Letitia James; criminal charges related to his hush-money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels; criminal charges related to his decision to stash top-secret government documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort; and two different investigations into his efforts to illegally remain in power after losing the 2020 election to President Joe Biden.

Trump was also recently found liable for sexually abusing and defaming journalist E. Jean Carroll.
