Child dies after falling from Brooklyn apartment building: NYPD
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A 4-year-old boy died after falling from the fourth floor of an apartment building in Brooklyn Monday afternoon, police said.
The incident happened at 3301 Farragut Rd. in East Flatbush just before 3 p.m., according to the NYPD. The child was found on the ground and was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.
A preliminary investigation found the child may have slipped past the security gate on a window, sources said. At this point, no criminality is suspected.
A witness said she heard two women and a man screaming after the child fell and saw them trying to perform CPR.
"It was horrible," said Barbara, the witness. "[They were] hysterical, all upset, howling, saying the kid's name."
First responders arrived to the building and tried to help the boy, but he did not survive his injuries.
New York City Council member Farah Louis is trying to help the community make sense of the tragic loss.
"We're definitely reaching out to the family, reaching out to the hospital," Louis said. "We're also going to speak to the landlord and to the super to have a conversation about all safety measures put in place so that this doesn't happen again."
