EastEnders’ Gillian Taylforth teases massive twist ahead of wedding with Rocky Cotton – and it could change everything
KATHY Beale is getting ready to tie the knot with Rocky Cotton – but things have gotten off to a bad start.
EastEnders star Gillian Taylforth revealed that another twist is ahead of the couple and it could turn her character’s plans on their head.
Kathy’s relationship with the former con man has been, ironically, incredibly rocky.
Yet from their troubled beginnings, Kathy and Rocky have managed to allow their romance to blossom and they’re hopeful it will lead them straight down the aisle.
Unfortunately, they may have to take a detour through another rough patch as teased by long-standing soap legend Gillian Taylforth.
During a chat to the Sun and other press, the 67-year-old actress revealed how her on-screen alter ego is getting ready ahead of her big day amid doubts about her relationship with the deceitful Rocky.
“She’s very apprehensive, she’s not quite sure because she’s found out something that’s upset her enormously yet again”, she teased.
“And so she doesn’t even know she’s going to go through with it.”
Thankfully for Rocky and Kathy, her son Ben Mitchell (played by Max Bowden) saves the day with a huge surprise and things quickly get back on track – but there’s more.
Viewers of the BBC One soap were shocked when it was revealed that Rocky was still married to his estranged wife Jo Cotton (Vicki Michelle).
Jo rocked up Albert Square to make the revelation but, after some convincing, she eventually agreed to sign divorce papers to allow Rocky to get married again.
But the lovebirds haven’t seen or heard the last of her and, as promised by soap boss Chris Clenshaw, she’s due to be a cumbersome surprise guest.
“Unfortunately, she does turn up with an agenda. She’s got more things to say which aren’t going to be very nice for Kathy”, Gillian explained.
Could it be enough for Kathy to call of the nuptials altogether?
Asked about her character’s relationship with Rocky, Gillian admitted she finds him to be a good match for Kathy, despite his penchant for deception.
“He’s a lovely guy, makes her laugh and he’s a bit handsome to go with it. But he does lie an awful lot”, she said.
“But I don’t think he does it deliberately. I think he just chooses to keep it all smooth.”
“On the whole, he’s got a really good heart and he doesn’t mean to offend you, he just tries to keep it all nice and peaceful.”

Sadly, Rocky’s judgement isn’t one to be trusted as, Gillian admits it herself, it often leads to the worst situations.
But throughout Kathy and Rocky’s dramatic storylines, Gillian has found a “really good friend” in the form of her co-star Brian Conley, who joined the line-up as the repenting villain in 2021.
“You know what, he’s so lovely. We get on really well. We’ve both got the same sense of humour. I mean, I love the job. He loves the job”, the star revealed.
“We have a great camaraderie. We’re really good friends. We have a great working relationship. We just get on so well.”
How will Kathy and Rocky’s wedding play out?
Could they opt for postponing their ceremony, following in Phil Mitchell and Kat Slater’s footsteps?
EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
