How to choose the right gaming laptop
When looking to purchase a new gaming laptop, there are number of key factors to take into account, including price, graphical power, multitasking performance, and build quality.
The Acer Nitro 5 and Alienware M18 laptops listed above are both included in our guide to the best gaming laptops in 2023, and both offer first-rate Nvidia RTX graphic cards at solid discounts.
You can find less expensive gaming laptops with AMD Radeon GPUs instead of Nvidia GPUs, but we recommend Nvidia GPUs over AMD GPUs across the board, as they outperform AMD cards by a considerable enough margin to justify the increased costs.
You should also make sure that a gaming laptop's refresh rate is adequate to support the games you're looking to play.
A 60 hertz (Hz) monitor may be sufficient to run casual games that operate at 60 frames per second (fps), for instance, but more intensive and graphically demanding games will require higher refresh rates to run properly. As we note in our best gaming laptops guide, a refresh rate of 165Hz is the industry standard for a high-quality gaming monitor.
