Pilot crashes plane nose first – then walks away with minor injuries
A small plane crashed nose first into the roof of airplane hangar – and the pilot walked away unharmed.
The Cessna 172 aircraft crashed into the Long Beach Airport structure yesterday.
Footage shows the plane stuck nose-down at an almost 180 angle, whilst one wing appears to be completely torn up.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot was practicing their take offs and landings, seemingly unsuccessfully.
The pilot had to be rescued from the crash, but miraculously only suffered minor injuries.
Firefighters were filmed using a ladder to climb to the top of the hangar.
No commercial flights coming in or out of the airport were impacts, Long Beach Airport told KTLA.
But firefighters on the scene told ABC 7 around 45 gallons of fuel leaked out onto the hangar.
The exact cause of the crash remains unknown.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investifate.
Officials said a preliminary update will be given over the coming days.
