Sony WH-1000XM4 vs. WH-1000XM5: What's the difference?
Though the WH-1000XM4 are great noise-cancelling headphones, you should keep in mind that Sony also sells a newer, more expensive model called the WH-1000XM5. The XM5s deliver better performance, but at just $248, we think the XM4s are a better deal for most shoppers.
Both headphones feature an over-ear design with Active Noise Cancelling (ANC), wireless Bluetooth support, and 30 hours of battery life. The XM5s step things up with a sleeker design, upgraded audio drivers, and additional ANC microphones. This gives the XM5s better sound quality and improved noise cancellation with higher frequencies. However, we think the XM4s are more comfortable and we like that you can fold them up for easier storage.
Ultimately, deciding between both headphones really comes down to how much you're willing to spend. The WH-1000XM5s are also on sale for Prime Day, and are down to an all-time low of $328. But that's still $80 more than the XM4s. If you have the extra cash to spare, you can't go wrong with the XM5s, but at their current deal price, we think most buyers will be more than satisfied with the cheaper WH-1000XM4.
