ITV axe star-studded show over poor ratings – and it’s bad news for Lorraine Kelly
ALPHA male celebs being transformed into drag stars was a delicious spectacle – but sadly not enough of us tuned in to Queens For The Night to witness it.
I can reveal that the show, which aired on a Saturday night on ITV1 last autumn, will not return this year.
Those who did watch it saw stars including EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt and Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson given an unforgettable glam makeover.
A TV insider said: “The show was always thought of as a bit of a ‘special’ for ITV but there was always the hope it might take off and become a series.
“That hasn’t happened but it’s the kind of programme channel bosses could bring back sporadically.
“It was a bold choice for ITV1 on a Saturday, but a worthy one.”
Soap stars Simon and Adam, who had featured together on I’m A Celebrity in 2021, were the top signings on the show, hosted by Lorraine Kelly.
They were turned into drag queens by true pros and mentors Myra Dubois and Kitty Scott-Claus and really threw themselves into it.
The soap pair were also joined by telly fitness guru Mr Motivator, Love Islander Chris Hughes and rugby player Joe Marler.
The show saw the stars deliver a performance as their glamorous alter ego in front of a panel of celeb judges made up of Spice Girls star Mel C, Aussie drag queen Courtney Act and comic Rob Beckett.
But I reckon they missed a trick — they should have done a spin-off of The Masked Singer called The Dragged Singer, and had everyone guess which celeb was behind the dress, wig and make-up.
And, yes, the stars really were that difficult to recognise after their transformation.
In Dyer need to staycate
Danny Dyer had viewers in hysterics with his E4 travelogue alongside Love Island daughter, Dani.
The potty-mouthed duo toured Italy in their own inimitable way, effing and blinding around sacred religious buildings, stunning scenery and famed tourist spots.
And now the channel wants Danny to sign up for a second series of Absolutely Dyer – but he’s got one condition.
Chatting on This Morning, the film hardman said: “I think we might do one in Essex. Go and see a few things in Essex and then we can slip home every night.”
He was quick to add he wasn’t being lazy, it was instead because Dani welcomed twin babies Summer and Star in May.
Danny went on: “They want to do more, but because she’s just banged out twins it’s a bit tricky at the moment.”
Channel 4’s bleeper could probably do with a rest, too.
A super doc on models
THE phenomenon of the Nineties catwalk goddesses will be the focus of a new Apple TV+ documentary.
Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington will feature in the new show, imaginatively titled The Super Models.
It will see all four women discuss in detail their lives and careers and go behind the scenes of their work.
Dropping on September 20, it will go back almost 40 years to the Eighties, the days when the women were just starting out.
And it traces their often turbulent lives right up to the present day.
Naturally, they’re all still looking sensational.
