Which Apple Watch should I buy?
Both Apple Watch models are great smartwatches. But to pick which one you want, you should consider what you plan on using it for.
We consider the Apple Watch 8 to be the best Apple Watch for most people. It offers comprehensive vitality sensors, including a new skin temperature sensor that helps women track menstrual ovulation and fertility cycles. It also houses an electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor for more accurate heart rate monitoring, and a sensor that can read blood oxygen levels.
The Apple Watch 8 also enjoys a maximum 36-hour battery life in its new Low Power Mode. Coupled with fast Qi wireless charging, it's a boon for forgetful folks who don't check battery levels until they're practically out of the door.
The Apple Watch SE, meanwhile, only offers the essentials, like an optical heart-rate monitor and 50-meter water resistance. The SE is ideal for those seeking basic health-tracking functionality without the high-end price tag.
Both models have a new crash and fall detection feature, which can automatically call emergency services if you're in a car accident or fall. This could be a lifesaver if you're ever unfortunate enough to suffer an accident.
In general, if you only plan on using your Apple Watch for basic fitness tracking, the SE model is fine. But if you want to go any deeper, or need a watch that will stay alive for long stretches of time, the Series 8 is your best bet.
