OCHA Asks for Funds to Help Needy Families in Afghanistan
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) in Afghanistan said that lack of funding is critical for the organization’s partners to address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
OCHA on Tuesday, July 11, in a tweet demanded donors provide the required fund for the organization to continue supporting needy families throughout Afghanistan.
To continue helping some 20 million people in Afghanistan until December 2023, OCHA needs at least $2.26 million, the organization said on Twitter.
Previously, OCHA had warned that nearly six million people are on the verge of witnessing acute hunger and are in need of emergency food shortages in Afghanistan.
According to OCHA, the organization has received some five percent of the needed funds from the international community for needy families in 2023.
This comes as poverty and hunger have doubled in the country, which needs to be addressed to avoid a devastating humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, private and state-run businesses and companies have gone through a recessionary period, most of which shut their doors for economic reasons. Thousands of people lost their jobs and are desperately looking for work to survive.
