Three types of deals gamers should keep an eye on for Amazon Prime Day
It’s the tail end of Amazon Prime Day, and that means you should catch on to deals before they’re gone. Just keep in mind, not all of them are created equal. For every deal on a Sony wireless headset, there’s a too-good-to-be-true price on a comparable product from a brand you’ve never heard of. You could think you’re getting a good product, but that may not be the case.
With video games, there are few items to keep an eye out for when looking for value. In general, Here are three general rules of thumb.
1. Check out Nintendo’s first-party titles because they rarely go on sale: That means you should definitely look at “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,” “Super Mario Odyssey,” “New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe” and “Mario Golf: Super Rush Standard.” All of them are on sale for $29.99 and sent via a Digital Code.
Not to be outdone, Square Enix also has deals on titles such as “Octopath Traveler II” and “Harvestella” on Nintendo Switch for $39.99. They’re newish games with “Octopath Traveler II” coming out this year. In general, older games have beefier discounts “God of War Ragnarok” ($49.99) released Nov. 9, 2022, compared to newer games such as “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” ($54.99), which was released April 28.
2. Peripherals such as headsets, mice and streaming gear have nice discounts: If you’re in the market for a new gaming headset or new gadgets to improve your battlestation for an aspiring streamer, companies such as HyperX and SteelSeries have discounts on their products.
HyperX has some of the most comfortable headsets and its Cloud II Wireless is available for $109.99. Although it’s not as impressive as the Cloud Alpha Wireless, which boasts 300 hours of battery life, it does the job.
Meanwhile, its QuadCast 2 and QuadCast microphones are on sale for $119.99 and $89.99, respectively. They do have plenty of lighting effects on them.
HyperX has its Alloy Origins 60 mechanical keyboard going for $59.99. Unfortunately, the keyboards aren’t hot swappable but they do have plenty of RGB lighting and comes in a compact 60% form.
SteelSeries is known for quality audio in their headsets and its Arctis Nova Pro wired headset with a GameDAC Gen 2 unit has a 20% discount at $198.99. Its Nova 7 Wireless headsets are more affordable at $132.98. This multiplatform version works for the Nintendo Switch, PC and PlayStation 5. Its Arctis 9 Dual Wireless headset that lets users connect to a console or PC and their phones has a big 45% discount at $109.49.
The peripheral maker is also one of the first to come out with keyboard featuring optical switches that allows two types of actions per key. It’s comparable to analog buttons on the original PlayStation 2 DualShock controllers. A light press will offer one action such as a walk while a harder press turns into a sprint. It’s Apex Pro TKL Keyboard boasts the technology and is on sale for $131.99. It even has a OLED smart display. The wireless version is avaailable for $173.99 while an even smaller version, which is 60%, is $175.99.
SteelSeries’ other products as the Aerox 5 Wireless Mouse and Aerox 5 wired mouse are $89.99 and $59.99 respectively. The company also has a sale on speakers with Arena 7 speakers at $224.99 and Arena 3 speakers at $89.99.
3. If you already have everything, it never hurts to have more storage space. That means you should check out deals on hard drives. If you’re a PlayStation 5 owner, you should look solid state drives that are optimized for the console. They are M.2 NVMe drivers with high read and write speed. It takes a bit of elbow work to install these devices into your console, but it’s well worth it to bump up how many digital games you can hold.
I picked up a 2TB Corsair MP600 PRO for $114.99.
For the Xbox Series X side, you can pick up a 1TB Seagate Storage Expansion card for $139.99. That’s a slight discount.
