Tottenham fans fume at ‘absolutely ridiculous’ last-minute pre-season change as they ask ‘why risk this?’
TOTTENHAM fans are raging after it was announced they will play a pre-season friendly against Barcelona FOUR DAYS before their opening Premier League game.
Spurs kick off life under new manager Ange Postecoglou away at Brentford on August 13.
But on the eve of the league season getting underway, they will now take on Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy match on the Wednesday.
And while it will be a chance for Postecoglou to hit the ground running as Tottenham boss, it is a game most Spurs fans have criticised.
Speaking on social media, one fan said: “Why the risk just before season starts.”
Another added: “Four days before Brentford? Why?”
A third replied: “What bright spark thought that was a good idea?”
And a fourth simply responded: “Terrible scheduling.”
Barcelona have held the Joan Gamper Trophy match since 1966 – winning 45 of the 57 editions including each of the last 10.
Gamper was a founding member, player, and president of Barcelona.

Every previous edition has been held at the Nou Camp, but that is not possible this year due to renovations on the ground.
According to 90Min, the 2023 clash with Spurs will take place at the near-56,000 capacity Estadi Olimpic Lluis Company – Barcelona’s temporary stadium for the 2023/24 season.
The venue was the main home for the 1992 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Barcelona’s league campaign also kicks off on the same day as Tottenham’s as they travel to Getafe on August 13.
