I bought a house without seeing it and there was a surprise in the cellar – I’m too terrified to even go down there
A WOMAN who bought her house sight unseen was left stunned and freaked out when she discovered a surprise waiting for her in the cellar.
Mallory’s dad flips houses, so gave her a call when he saw one come up for auction in Ohio that would be perfect for her.
She ended up buying it for $59,000 (£45,450), but hadn’t even had a tour before becoming the owner.
So, when she finally got to look around after her purchase, she was somewhat surprised to find out there was a jail cell in the cellar.
“You can just imagine what my face would have looked like because actually, what the heck?” Mallory said of her reaction to the news in a video on her TikTok page.
“Who has a jail cell in their basement besides serial killers?”
She added that there were other “quirky things” about the property that made her want to do some more research – such as the fact it came with a three-car garage, when the previous owners didn’t need one.
“So after some research, I came to the conclusion that this house used to be a State Patrolman’s house,” she explained.
“So basically the State Patrolmen would come here and work and park their cars in the three-car garage.
“And then when the local jail wasn’t open, they would keep people here overnight in my basement until the jail opened in the morning.”
Despite figuring out the history behind the jail cell, Mallory admitted she “literally hates” going down to the basement, and always makes her husband or dog go with her if she has to go down there.
In fact, people have suggested she make the room into a unique Air BnB room, but Mallory said she couldn’t stand to be down there long enough to convert it.
“There’s cement everywhere and it just gives me creepy vibes,” she added.
“It’s really not scary but if you think about it it is kinda scary.”
People in the comments section pleaded with Mallory to show them the basement, but she’s currently away so can’t.
However, she’s promised to do a tour when she gets home.
And people in the comments section were full of suggestions as to what she could do with the space.
“Turn the jail cell into a wine cellar,” one wrote.
“Make it a girls lounge!”another said.
As a third suggested: “You should knock down the jail sell and make the basement a cool hang out room.”
