Sam Todd Signs
Derry City FC can confirm that central defender Sam Todd has re-joined the club on a permanent deal, having spent the last couple of seasons at UCD.
The 25-year old Donegal native was in City’s Academy before being brought into the senior squad in 2017.
Sam moved to Finn Harps a year later before earning a scholarship at the Dublin University.
He travelled with his new team-mates to the Faroe Islands this morning ahead of our Europa Conference clash with HB Torshavn tomorrow night (Thursday).
Manager Ruaidhri Higgins said that he was very happy to bring the new man in, and that he had no doubt Sam would strengthen his side’s defensive options in the latter half of the season.
“We’re delighted to bring Sam back to the club and he has gained really good experience at this level over the last couple of seasons.
“We have quality players in our defence and Sam will definitely add to our options in that area of the pitch, with a busy second half of the season coming up.”
The player himself said he was really looking to getting started but said he knew that competition for places would be fierce.
“I left Derry to try to get more first team football, and funnily enough my only senior appearance first time around was in a Europa qualifier.
“I’ve played with Shane McEleney and Ciaran Coll at Harps and played against Mark Connolly a few times.
“I obviously know Ronan Boyce well and have seen Cameron McJannet and the others like Ben Doherty too; so I know the quality that’s there.
“As well as working with them I’m ready to learn from them too and I can’t wait to get started.”
