CT man charged in armed robbery of Watertown gas station
A New Haven man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a gas station in Watertown on June 20.
Thomas Brown, 22, was arrested by the Watertown Police Department on July 7 on charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree larceny. At the time of his arrest, police said they recovered a firearm.
Officers were dispatched to the Shell gas station at 535 Straits Turnpike at about 10:12 p.m. on June 20 after two masked suspects entered the store and one of them pointed a gun at the clerk demanding money, according to Watertown police.
The clerk was not injured, and the suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot headed east toward Bunker Hill Road, police said.
One of the suspects was wearing a dark winter jacket with a hood over his head and a facemask. The other suspect was wearing shorts, a dark jacket and a facemask, police said.
Detectives identified a potential vehicle involved in the incident and worked with other departments which had similar robberies. At that time, detectives developed probable cause identifying Brown as one of the two suspects, according to police.
Brown was arraigned in Waterbury on July 7 and is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond, police said.
The investigation into the robbery is ongoing as police look to identify the second suspect.
