Bali Tourists Go Viral After Picking Up Trash for Video, Leaving It
The Balinese people are dealing with issues including rising costs of living and careless tourists desecrating their home. Two women visiting the Indonesian island seemed to be helping by picking up trash off Pererenan Beach in Canggu while filming the act of cleaning up the litter. But as soon as the camera went down, they dropped the trash bags in the sand and walked away unbothered.
The July 4 incident sparked outrage on TikTok as commenters from around the world aired out their grievances with the apparent influencers. TikTok user Noy Roca posted the video from a friend's private Instagram of the women filming their Oscar-worthy production.

In the clip, they're seen not even picking up pieces of trash, but sticks on the sand. They even got video of one of them doing a dance, as if celebrating the fact that they were cleaning up the beach. After they got their honorable-looking videos and photos, they collected their belongings and walked away. As they were leaving, someone on the beach is heard telling them to pick up their trash, but they ignored them.
"TikTok world, do your thing! Find this girl," one commenter exhorted. "I don't think they're uneducated; I think they're entitled scumbags," another wrote.
Whatever the visitors recorded has yet to be found online, which leads one to believe they might have reconsidered posting after seeing another perspective on their actions take over social media. The Balinese government, meanwhile, is continuing to take ocean pollution seriously. All single-use plastics were banned on the island in 2022 and have been phased out of use.
Tourists behaving badly always end up going viral online, so avoid the problem entirely by being a mindful traveler wherever you are in the world.
