The family home is far from complete but the Romero family has tried the best to make it a cosy home.

Currently the ceilings of his new home are around 16-and-a-half feet high and Ruben hopes to build a second story for bedrooms.

The dad of four regularly boasts that his family would survive in their bunker in the event of a natural disaster.

This is because the bunker is surrounded by a mesh copper cage and is reinforced with EMP shielded.

The 45 year old artist has been installing an energy recovery ventilation system and water system.

The temporary family kitchen which is in the biggest room in the bunker is by far the most complete with a induction hotplate, microwave, toaster, oven and air fryer.

The family have added repurposed cabinets for food storage and to hold kitchen appliances whilst hey build a proper kitchen.

Ruben said: “This is just temporary until we start building our kitchen in the real room it’s gonna be.”

The move has been so costly that the web consultant wouldn’t recommend others buy a bunker.

Ruben reckons he has spent somewhere between £230,000 – £380,000 buying and renovating the bunker.

Even daily tasks like bringing in the groceries are far more complicated than in a regular home, as they need to use a cage lift.

That’s not the only downside, the family has created a series on TikTok sharing some of the most difficult things about living in a Bunker.

They said: “Power outages.”

The family have racked up over 708,000 followers TikTok.

People have been debating whether or not they themselves could handle living in an underground bunker

One user asked: “Are you afraid the bunker door will jam and accidently lock you inside.”

Another said: “To be honest. Not a bad idea, Multiple perks to it I’m sure.”

“It’s not being able to get out quickly for me. I get the same way if furniture blocks me in a room while decorating,” claimed a third.
