CT woman charged with negligent homicide in connection with fatal pedestrian crash
A Newtown woman is facing multiple charges in connection with the death of a 45-year-old woman who was struck by a car while walking in Fairfield in June.
Meghan Rice, 51, turned herself in to the Fairfield Police Department headquarters on Monday and is charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, failure to drive right and traveling unreasonably fast following a June 23 crash that killed Meghan Raveis.
According to the Fairfield Police Department, Raveis was hit by a vehicle in the area of the 500 block of Redding Road around 2:55 p.m. on June 23. She was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to police.
Raveis was “a beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend whose loving heart was felt by those around her,” according to her obituary. “She was a model of devotion to her family, friends, and interests which brought communities together and advocated on behalf of those in need.”
Raveis, a mother of three and a former college soccer standout, was the managing director of the William Raveis Charitable Fund, where she spearheaded its expansion to include 40 regional events across New England and Florida, her obituary said.
Rice remained at the scene following the crash. She was released on a $100,000 bond and is due in court on July 31.
