Steve Smith To Glenn Maxwell: Five Key Players For Australia In ODI World Cup
Australia will enter the World Cup 2023 as one of the favourites for the title. The former World Champions have some of the best resources in world cricket and will be a tough team to beat in the competition.
Australia will begin their World Cup campaign against hosts India on October 8 in Bengaluru. Here are five players who will be key for Australia in the quest to win their sixth ODI World Cup title.
Steve Smith
Steve Smith will be the most important player for Australia in World Cup. The team will play most of their matches on low and slow tracks of Bengaluru, Lucknow, Delhi and Smith, with his ability to play spin well, will hold the key for the visitors.
Smith has been in staggering form since the 2019 World Cup, scoring 1129 runs in 24 matches at an average of 59.42, with four centuries.
Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell carried a tremendous amount of experience playing cricket in India. He has been a regular feature in the Indian Premier League. Maxwell is an impact player and can change the complexion of the game within a blink of an eye.
Maxwell has played 18 matches post the 2019 World Cup, scoring 613 runs in 18 matches, including a century. Maxwell will also be handy with his off-spin on low and slow tracks of India.
Cameron Green
Cameron Green has got off to a great start to his ODI career. The all-rounder has featured in 15 ODI matches for Australia, scoring 302 runs at an average of 50.33 and has also accounted for 11 wickets.
Pat Cummins
The Australian captain will have a huge responsibility on his shoulders. Cummins will be the lead pacer of the lethal Aussie attack.
Wickets with the new ball are key on flat tracks of India and Cummins knows the art of picking early wickets. Cummins has enjoyed a decent run post the 2019 World Cup, picking 28 wickets in 17 ODI games.
Mitchell Starc
The tearaway fast bowler will also be an asset for Australia in the marquee event. Starc with his searing yorkers is a nightmare to face when in full flow. The left-arm pacer has been in great form since the 2019 World Cup, taking 47 wickets in 25 games at an average of 26.12.
