Watch: Some Alabama GOP voters are fed up with Tommy Tuberville's military promotion blockade
Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville has for months blocked hundreds of military appointments and promotions from being considered, in an attempt to try to force the Pentagon to drop a policy allowing paid leave for servicemembers who need to travel to states where they can legally obtain abortions.
But as CNN reporter Lauren Fox found out, Alabama voters aren't all on board with Tuberville's scheme — not even Republican voters.
"I'm pro-life and I'm a conservative, but I really don't believe that he should hold up military promotions," one voter told her.
Another Alabama Republican voter who backed Tuberville in 2020, Gary Counts, told Fox, "I will have to see what he does" when asked if he would vote for Tuberville a second time.

"When you start politicizing how to promote, I think we are stepping into the wrong territory," said Greg Black, another Alabama voter. "I come from a military family. My dad is retired Marine, my oldest brother retired Navy, I'm retired Air Force. So we give ourselves to this country."
"In Alabama, abortion is illegal in the state unless the life of the mother is in danger," Fox noted. "In Huntsville, the military is the backbone of the economy, and Tuberville's holds are already having an impact."
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has warned that Tuberville's blockade is a threat to national security and military readiness. Tuberville, for his part, has blamed the Biden administration for refusing to discuss the issue with him, although last week, he blew off a call from Austin to talk about it.
