Donald Trump demanded Republican lawmakers bail him out of his mounting legal troubles, which appears to include a third indictment for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection.
The former president responded to a post from conservative influencer "Catturd," who claimed attorney general Merrick Garland was "arresting political opponents" and called on Republicans to impeach him and President Joe Biden, with a pair of statements on his Truth Social website.
"The Rep Party is too chicken sh*t to impeach him," posted "Catturd." "[FBI director] Christopher Wray is interfering in our elections and running the FBI as the secret police for the Dem party - and still the Rep Party is too chicken sh*t to impeach him. Joe Biden has taken bribes and extorted money from enemy countries (treason) - and still the Rep Party is too chicken sh*t to impeach him. The Republican Party = spineless, worthless, good-for-nothing cowards."
Trump, who was impeached twice himself, agreed and demanded GOP lawmakers act quickly in a pair of statements issued about an hour before he revealed that special counsel Jack Smith had sent him a target letter related to the grand jury investigation of his efforts to remain in office despite his 2020 election loss.
"The Republican Party must fight fire with fire, and right now, or it will be extinguished!!!" Trump posted. "The Republican Party must get tough, now. This is the strong sentiment that’s flowing through the veins of Patriots. DO SOMETHING!!!"
