Suicide Blast Kills 1, Injures 7 in Pakistan’s Peshawar
A suicide blast near a security forces vehicle in Peshawar on Tuesday injured several people, while one person was killed.
According to the video on social media, the suicide attacker targeted the vehicle of the officials of the security forces.
According to Reuters, who cited a senior official, one person was “martyred” in the attack. Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan, a recently formed jihadist organization, has taken responsibility for the attack.
“One martyr, seven injured, but all stable,” the high-ranking official said on condition of anonymity.
Two of the eight injured, according to the police, are in critical condition, and all of the injured have been transferred to the Hayatabad Medical Complex.
Cantt Superintendent of Police (SP) Waqas Rafi said that a bomb disposal squad was gathering evidence from the scene while speaking to the reporters close to the explosion site.
Two days after 12 of its soldiers were killed in two attacks, the Pakistani army expressed grave concern that militants had established safe havens in neighbouring Afghanistan and warned to take an “effective response”.
Since the unilateral ending of a ceasefire agreement with the government in late 2022, the militants have increased their attacks, including the bombing of a mosque in Peshawar earlier this year that left more than 100 people dead.
Last week, a similar incident occurred in Balochistan province, for which the same militant has claimed responsibility.
