I’m a farmer – Japanese beetles travel in packs of 100 to destroy your plants, but my tips get rid of them in 24 hours
IF your plants have become a buffet for Japanese beetles, one farmer has some tips that can help.
The content creator shared his hacks for ridding your garden of the pests in 24 hours.
In his video, TikTok user Noah Young (@theshilohfarm) explained: “These bugs are attracted to ripening or diseased fruit, and once they show up they eat the fruit, leaves, flowers, and even the roots.
“They travel like homeschoolers, if you see one you’re bound to see 100 more,” the TikToker said.
Noah shared his top tricks for tackling the Japanese beetles with his followers.
For his first tip, he suggested using soapy water to kill any beetles on your plants.
“Pick them off by hand and stick them in a bucket of soapy water to remove their evil souls from their tiny little bodies,” the influencer said.
He continued: “You can also put the soapy water in a spray bottle and go at them John Wick style.”
The farmer advised viewers to use two teaspoons of dish soap for every gallon of water.
Noah also recommended using companion plants to protect your flowerbed.
“Plant geraniums, thirty minutes after eating a petal the beetle rolls over on its back paralyzed and the birds will eat it,” he said.
For his final hack, Noah advised his followers to use neem oil to prevent the pests from reproducing.
“When male beetles ingest neem oil, they pass it on to the eggs so the larvae will die,” he explained.
Noah also told his viewers to steer clear of Japanese beetle fly traps, calling them a sure way of attracting more pests.
TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the hacks.
“I did the same tricks and they’re not in my garden anymore,” wrote one viewer.
Another follower said: “Literally Googled this yesterday because they are eating my leaves so thanks for the tips!!!”
“They have decimated one of my rose bushes this year and my plum tree,” commented a third person.
