Police ID victim of fatal social club shooting in Waterbury, arrest man in connection with incident
Waterbury police have identified a homicide victim and arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting at a social club in Waterbury on Sunday.
Officers on patrol around 4 a.m. on Sunday in the area of Watertown Avenue learned that a large crowd was gathered outside of the Bunker Social Club at 437 Watertown Ave., according to the Waterbury Police Department. As officers arrived, they located an adult man, later identified as 40-year-old Gregory Robertson of Fredericksburg, Virginia, inside the social club with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
Additionally, officers learned two additional gunshot victims arrived at Saint Mary’s Hospital believed to be part of the same incident, according to police. The additional victims were identified as adult men. Both are currently listed in stable condition, police said.
Investigators arrested a suspect, identified as 34-year-old German Pena-Lopez of Waterbury, in connection with the incident. He was charged with illegal possession of weapons in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, first-degree threatening and illegal transfer sale of a firearm, according to police. He was being held on a $1 million bond pending his court arraignment.
This is an ongoing investigation, and additional arrests are expected, police said.
