My balcony was so grotty you needed a tetanus shot to go out there – then I gave it a glow up for £15 & it looks so good

HER balcony was so grotty that she needed a tetanus shot to even go outside.

So Emily decided to give it a summer glow up, and managed to get it looking “gorgeous” for just £15.

She couldn’t understand why the people who lived in her Toronto flat before her had decided to paint the glass of the balcony.

“It’s so ugly – you basically need a tetanus shot if you wanna go outside,” Emily said in her TikTok video.

“It’s just falling off. Who paints this stuff?”

Originally Emily had been hoping to get “cool bamboo stuff” to put around the balcony, but then remembered that her local discount store sells straw beach mats.

So she grabbed some of them, and some zip ties, and got to work.

“I could have called my landlord to ask her to fix this but I didn’t want to get renovicted so I decided to DIY this all by myself,” she explained.

“It’s going really well and it’s starting to look even more fancy than the super fancy new condos that are being built right behind our building.”

While she ended up breaking her wooden garden box in the process of doing the balcony, she was thrilled with the finished look.

“My balcony is now gorgeous,” she gushed, as she sat enjoying a drink in the sunshine.

“Balcony makeover for $20! (£15),” Emily captioned her video.

“That looks really good!” one person commented on the video.

As another added: “Get some fake grass too, that’ll look lovely.”

“This is such a good idea!!” a third wrote.

To which Emily replied: “Thanks! I hope it holds up at least for the summer.”

Others questioned why Emily hadn’t tried to remove the paint, with one writing: “Paint remover! let the sun in.

“the wind will have those beach mats holding on for dear life.”

“I honestly wish I could but the glass is all broken and I can’t reach the other side without falling or getting tetanus from all the rust,” Emily responded.
