The challenging adventure began when Shaddock's catamaran set sail from La Paz, Mexico, in April, with the destination set for French Polynesia. Unfortunately, the voyage was plagued by severe weather conditions, which rendered the vessel incapacitated merely weeks into the journey. Shaddock recalled his last sighting of land, which occurred in early May as he departed the Sea of Cortez and ventured into the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, illuminated by a full moon.
