I live in the back of my van and it’s 93 degrees out – my ‘blanket hack’ feels absolutely amazing even in a heatwave
A VAN dweller has created the perfect remedy to help keep him cool, even in a heatwave.
When temperatures reached 93 degrees outside, he said his “blanket hack” felt absolutely amazing.
No one could accuse Ryan Twomey (@ryantwomeyy) of not being prepared.
As far as van life is concerned, he is super experienced and has an AC unit installed.
But, as he learned, when the outside temperatures reached sweltering heights, it was barely adequate.
So, he did a bit of thinking and came up with his cooling trick.
“I’m posting this TikTok from under the blanket and it feels heavenly,” he said in his video.
Ryan has a phenomenal following on his platform of 1.1 million and another 27.6 million likes, where he shares episodes from his life as a van dweller.
He describes himself as a: “Young wizard extraordinaire living in my self-converted van full time.”
But he had to keep a cool head when the temperatures went stratospheric.
“So I live in the back of my van. I’m in the middle of a heat wave and it’s 93 degrees out and I have this portable AC unit,” he explained.
“That keeps me cool but it’s not strong enough to cool off the entire back of the van.”
He showed viewers the temperature, a roasting 89 degrees. But he had worked out a way of making the AC work for him.
“But [the AC] is strong enough to cool off underneath this blanket.
“So basically what I’ll do is I’ll take the tube from my AC and I’ll run it under this blanket.”
He had cleverly created a cocoon and it worked a treat.
“I’ll just sit under here and cool off. And while it’s 90 degrees outside it’s 72 degrees under this blanket.”
He was thrilled: “So it feels absolutely amazing.”
The post has had over 31,000 likes and hundreds of comments. Many were impressed with his hack but many more envied his lifestyle.
“Man, you are living the dream,” was the wistful response of this fan.
It was a similar reaction from this viewer: “Dude, I think your whole deal is awesome.”
Bringing his post to a close, this commenter was impressed at his idea, however: “Pretty smart. I definitely would not have thought of that,” they said.
