Cool Down Lap with Candice, Post 7/15/2023

We put another race in the record books, but it was not the best of nights. With 100° temperature, getting the fans to come was no easy task. We decided to move our start time back to 7:00 pm as of last Friday. Several racers took advantage of that to show up a little bit later.

 

You’re kind of darned if you do or if you don’t. People are going to get mad at you if you cancel because of the heat and other people are going to wonder why you didn’t. It’s not the way it used to be. You could get away with racing and the crowd would come. Then again, the crowd was coming pretty much no matter what back in the day.

 

Despite the struggle to get fans, the racing was pretty competitive. We saw two-point lead changes and a first time-winner in the IMCA Stock Cars. We ended up getting a decent enough car count, and our Micro Sprint turnout improved. We’re trying to establish something there as another option to give the fans.

 

We have Late Models and Wingless Spec Sprints among other divisions this coming week. We’ll see how the fans respond to that and how the weather is going to be. Late Models on dirt doesn’t happen much these days in California. You have to go up to Oregon, where they have a thriving division at multiple tracks.
