BMW driver Adil Iqbal jailed after causing death of pregnant mum who died in horror crash that left sons, 2 & 9, hurt
A SPEEDING driver has been jailed for 12 years for causing the death of a pregnant mum-of-two in a horror motorway crash.
Adil Iqbal, 22, smashed into Frankie Jules-Hough, 38, while driving his BMW at 123mph down the M66.
The mum had stopped on the hard shoulder to answer a call with three kids in the car when Iqbal ploughed into her near Bury, Greater Manchester, on May 13.
The 3.10pm southbound smash left Frankie’s son, nine, and nephew, four, with serious injuries.
Her two-year-old son was airlifted to hospital alongside the car’s occupants.
Frankie died later in hospital while her eldest son and nephew were left in induced comas in intensive care.
The mum had discovered she was pregnant with a baby girl just a week before her tragic death.
Iqbal admitted to causing the mum’s death and serious injuries to Frankie’s son eldest son but did not enter a plea to the same charge relating to her nephew.
But he was today sentenced to 12 years behind bars at Minshill Street Crown Court.
Paying tribute, Frankie’s brother-in-law Arron Welby said: “She was the most amazing person, she had a heart of gold.
“She was a dedicated, fierce mother and she was a fighter for her kids.
“She was the best auntie. She was a shining light, she would protect her kids with everything she had.”
Solictor Rose Gibson-Harper, representing Frankie’s nephew, added: “Today’s 12-year sentence is insulting and an injustice.
“This case stands as one of the worst examples of dangerous driving I have witnessed in my 27-year career as a catastrophic injury lawyer.
“And we expected the justice system to fulfil its duty and utilise its new-found powers.”
