Mum, 27, and dad, 30, guilty of causing death of their five-month-old daughter who suffered multiple broken bones
A MUM and dad have been found guilty of causing the death of their five-month-old daughter who suffered multiple broken bones.
Rebecca Grocott, 27, and Joshua Collard, 30, have been convicted after Ava Mae Collard was found by paramedics in cardiac arrest.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the family home on Longhope Drive, in Stone, Staffordshire, on February 27, 2020.
Paramedics discovered the tot in cardiac arrest and alerted police.
Ava Mae then sadly died in hospital on March 1, 2020.
A post-mortem found multiple fractures to Ava Mae’s ribs, collarbone and femur as well as severe trauma to the side of her head.
Grocott and Collard have also been found guilty of two counts of child neglect.
During a five week trial, Stafford Crown Court heard that cops started treating Ava Mae’s death as “unexplained” after the parents could not explain what had happened when they were arrested.
Grocott, of Harston Grove, Stone, and Collard, of Gough Close, Stafford, have now been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on July 27.
Detective Constable Emily Hanlon said “This is a truly tragic case in which five-month-old Ava died as a result of the actions of two people who should have protected her.
“I would like to thank all of those involved in securing justice for Ava Mae.
“Our thoughts continue to remain with everyone affected by Ava Mae’s death.”
