I was married with a huge house but sold it all to live in a van with my dog… my rig is more luxurious than people think
A WOMAN who ditched her traditional life to live full time in a van with her dog has revealed why she loves life on the road so much.
Brittany owned a business and lived in a huge house with her husband at one point, but decided to sell everything over the course of six months.
Now she lives in a pretty luxurious van, and it’s loads better than most people think.
She showed off her tiny pad to Tiny Home Tours and explained how she makes the space work for her and her pet pooch, Polly.
Brittany’s kitchen has some savvy storage solutions, so it’s not as cramped as van kitchen might sound.
“There’s lots of overhead storage, I could probably do a little better job of organising it,” she said.
The tap in her sink can even be extended to go out the window so she can rinse off her dog if she needs to.
There’s even an induction stove built in, but Brittany still keeps the portable camp stove from her old van so she can cook outside too.
As for her bedroom, the raised bed means she’s got even more storage underneath, plus a place for Polly the dog to hang out.
“It is quite a luxury having an actual full size bed in here,” she raved.
“There’s plenty of space for extra pillows, which is great, and most importantly there’s enough space for my queen, Polly, because she does take up the majority of the bed,” Brittany continued.
Impressively, the van even has room for Brittany to hand her clothes and store more than just the basic essentials.
She said: “One of the things I love is that I have a hanging closet in this van, this is especially a luxury because prior to my old van I lived out of a 40 litre backpack for almost eight years of my life.
“So, having space for clothing that isn’t completely necessary and utilitarian has been quite a luxury.”
Despite all the extra room for storage there is one downfall of the van – there’s no bathroom on board.
This means Brittany has to park her van on a site with bathrooms, use ones in local shops, or, of course, go outside, which isn’t always practical.
After sharing her tiny home on YouTube others loved it, but agreed they couldn’t live without a toilet in their home.
One said: “Great van, I LOVE the bed and closet and personal storage by it. (But would want a bathroom!!!!)”
A second agreed: “It’s cool the presentation, but you should have a bathroom. Your side seat could house a composting toilet.”
But Brittany replied to the naysayers and hit back: “It’s actually quite easy living without a toilet when you spend so much time boondocking in the middle of nowhere.
“For me, it doesn’t make sense to have one and I don’t regret the decision.”
