The Indian government plans to introduce eco-friendly bamboo-made "Bahu Balli" fences along national highways and expressways. These fences offer an alternative to steel and are hoped to boost the rural economy, with villagers and tribals benefitting from them. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said this type of fencing has undergone testing, and a pilot project is being set up in Chhattisgarh.
