I’m a food expert – the major mistake you’re making that gives you garlic breath & how to eat loads without stinking
GARLIC fans rejoice – you can eat as much of the stuff as you want without your breath ever stinking.
According to food expert Christopher Kimball, there’s a clever trick Italian cooks use to stop their breath from stinking after eating garlic.
Apparently, the gross smell of garlic breath only happens when you eat garlic that’s been crushed.
That’s why Christopher recommended avoiding using a garlic press when adding any to your dishes.
He explained: “Garlic breath comes from cutting the clove of garlic in a press, then there’s enzymatic activity that occurs that produces something called allicin.
“Allicin is what gives you garlic breath.”
So, what should you do instead?
Simply smashing the cloves with the side of a knife and cooking them in oil will give your food the flavour boost you’re after, without any of the smelly breath.
“Remove it before it cooks to long and you’ll get the nice, buttery, mellow flavour of garlic, without the garlic breath,” the pro said.
After sharing the trick on Instagram (@177milkstreet) other food fans were shocked they didn’t know the hack already.
One said: “No way I didn’t know this. I’ll have to try it out.”
But others said they’d still use their trust garlic presses, even if it means having bad breath.
“Sorry Chris, you’ll have to pry my press from my cold, dead hands, garlic breath,” someone else joked.
Another agreed: “I love my garlic press, still gonna use it.”
“I, for one, welcome the garlic breath,” someone else commented.
