A man accused of shooting his girlfriend in the chest in February during a domestic incident in Hartford was extradited to Connecticut this week to face attempted murder and assault charges.

Dakwan Nelson, 19, was served by the Hartford Police Department with a warrant Monday on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was extradited from New York to face the charges.

Nelson in April was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service in New York City. The Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force and Hartford police tracked Nelson to New York before regional marshals for the New York and New Jersey area spotted him walking in Brooklyn, the U.S. Marshals Service said on April 19.  He fled upon seeing authorities and was taken into custody shortly thereafter in a building on Saratoga Avenue, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Hartford police said Nelson shot his then-girlfriend in the chest during a domestic incident on Wethersfield Avenue on Feb. 26. She ultimately survived.

Nelson was arraigned Tuesday in Hartford Superior Court where a judge set his bail at $2 million, court records show. Judicial and Connecticut Department of Correction records reviewed Wednesday indicate he remains held on bond.

Nelson did not enter a plea during the hearing Tuesday. He is due back in court on Aug. 29.
