Women’s World Cup watch parties tonight at Music Center, Hammer Museum, bars across Southern California
LOS ANGELES — There will be a watch party for Wednesday night’s United States-Netherlands FIFA Women’s World Cup soccer game, organized by the Angel City Football Club, in the Jerry Moss Plaza outside The Music Center.
Music, art and soccer activities will start at 4 p.m., with the game from Wellington Regional Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand, set to begin at 6 p.m. It will be shown on giant LED screens.
Picnics are encouraged. Outside alcohol is prohibited. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. A limited number of chairs will be available. Guests may bring low camping/beach/lawn chairs without umbrellas.
ACFC players are set to appear. The U.S. team includes two ACFC players, midfielder Julie Ertz and forward Alyssa Thompson.
Free parking is available at The Music Center Main Campus Parking Garage by mentioning the Women’s World Cup watch party upon entry.
Watch parties organized by chapters of American Outlaws, a nationwide support group for the U.S. men’s and women’s national soccer teams, will be at Homebound Brew Haus at Union Station, L.A. Draught in Santa Monica, Legends Sports Bar in Long Beach, Lopez & Lefty’s in Anaheim, The Surly Goat in Encino and the Underground Pub & Grill in Hermosa Beach.
The game will be shown on large screens at the Hammer Museum in Westwood.
There will be a watch party at Basin 141 in Monrovia, the hometown of U.S. midfielder Ashley Sanchez, with some of her relatives, friends and teammates set to attend.
The game will be televised by Fox in English and in Spanish by Telemundo, Universo and Peacock.
Both teams won their openers, with the U.S. defeating Vietnam, 3-0, and the Netherlands defeating Portugal, 1-0. The winner is virtually assured of being one of the two teams from Group E to advance to the round of 16.
The U.S. is first in the rankings compiled by FIFA, soccer’s international governing body. Netherlands is ranked ninth.
The U.S. is 8-1-1 against the Netherlands and undefeated against the Dutch since a 4-3 loss in the first game between the teams in 1991. The U.S. defeated the Netherlands, 2-0, in the final of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Seven players from each team who played in that game are on their team’s roster for Wednesday’s game.
All but one of the 23 players on the U.S. team play in the National Women’s Soccer League. The exception is midfielder Lindsey Horan, who plays for Olympique Lyon of France’s Division 1 Féminine, where she is a teammate of Dutch midfielders Danielle van de Donk and Damaris Egurrola.
Netherlands’ roster consists of six players each who play for club teams in the Netherlands and England, four in France, three in Germany, and one each in Italy and Spain. Two are unattached.
