IMSA Sportscar Weekend At Road America Draws 46 Entries
The provisional entry list has been published for the upcoming IMSA Sportscar Weekend at Road America on 6 August, featuring all five classes from the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and a total of 46 entries.
At the top, the GTP entry list grows by one with the anticipated debut of the #59 Proton Competition Porsche 963 in the WeatherTech colours.
Harry Tincknell and Gianmaria Bruni will drive the #59 Porsche for the remaining three races in which the GTP class participates, with Neel Jani joining them for Petit Le Mans at the end of the season.
That makes four Porsches, two Cadillac V-Series.Rs, two BMW M Hybrid V8s, and two Acura ARX-06es. Cadillac currently leads the Manufacturers’ Championship, while the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac and drivers Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims lead the championship by ten points.
Seven LMP2s are entered, with two driver changes to note. John Falb is back aboard the #35 TDS Racing Oreca LMP2 07 in place of the injured François Heriau, while Tower Motorsports’ #8 has yet to announce who will be the Bronze-graded co-driver to Louis Deletraz. John Farano missed Le Mans and Watkins Glen due to an injury sustained at Laguna Seca. Dennis Andersen is back in the High Class Racing #20 after he missed Watkins Glen.
Also missing is Rick Ware Racing’s #51 Oreca which had run the full season to this point.
Just six points separate the top three crews in the LMP2 standings.
LMP3 welcomes the addition of Jr III Racing’s new #29 Ligier JS P320 featuring Bijoy Garg and reigning Indy NXT champion Linus Lundqvist, and the return of the #85 JDC Miller Motorsports Duquiene D08 with a new driver combination – Gerry Kraut and Scott Andrews, who finished third in class at this year’s Road to Le Mans Race 2 for United Autosports.
Ave Motorsports’ regular duo of teenager Seth Lucas and former Champ Car journeyman Tonis Kasemets returns to action, as well.
But there is a change at the #74 Riley Ligier – where Felipe Fraga has been replaced by Josh Burdon, due to Fraga’s commitments in the Brazilian Stock Car Pro Series. Fraga and Gar Robinson have won the last three IMSA rounds in a row and had built a commanding lead in the championship table.
There are no changes to the five-car line-up in GTD Pro, but GTD “Standard” gains one additional entry since Lime Rock with the return of Racers Edge Motorsports and the #93 Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 of Ashton Harrison and Mario Farnbacher.
This is the team’s first appearance in a non-Michelin Endurance Cup round since Long Beach, where a qualifying accident forced Harrison and Farnbacher to withdraw.
The #94 Andretti Autosport Aston Martin Vantage GT3 (Jarett Andretti/Gabby Chaves) returns as well, hoping to see the chequered flag for the first time this season. At Kellymoss with Riley, David Brule returns to the #92 Porsche 911 GT3 R in place of Julien Andlauer.
