White Sox Make Trade with Yankees
The Chicago White Sox have made another deal. This time it’s right-handed reliever Keynan Middleton, who has been traded to the New York Yankees.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan was first to report the trade between both clubs.
Middleton, 29, has a 3.96 ERA in 36.1 innings this season.
The right-handed pitcher is slated to be a free agent following the 2023 season.
Middleton signed a minor league deal with the White Sox back in January and although he started the year at Triple-A, the righty was called up on April 10, and through the middle of May he had a sub-2 ERA. During the month of May, Middleton tossed 11.2 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and four walks, while striking out 14 batters in 11 appearances.
The White Sox are receiving right-handed pitcher Juan Carela.
Carela, 21, has been at advanced A-Ball in 2023 in the Yankees system. He has been in the starting rotation, making one relief appearance as well. In 17 outings the right-hander has posted a 3.67 ERA in 83.1 innings, with 109 strikeouts and 32 walks. Pretty good numbers there, so he’ll probably be up to Double-A soon.
At the end, the White Sox traded six pitchers leading up to the trade deadline.
