Illinois Governor Spends $23 Million on Hotline to Promote Killing Babies in Abortions
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker is spending $23 million of taxpayers’ money to pressure more women to abort their unborn babies.
While cutting off pregnancy and parenting support services, Pritzker and other state Democrat leaders have been working aggressively to expand abortions in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. A law that he signed earlier this year allows nurse practitioners to do abortions and protects abortionists who kill unborn babies in violation of other states’ pro-life laws.
Pritzker and other pro-abortion governors also are using tax dollars to pay for elective abortions, abortion travel, scholarships for medical students to become abortionists, security for abortion facilities and more.
In doing so, they are neglecting the real needs of pregnant mothers, most of whom seek abortions because they struggle to find resources. A new study published in the journal Cureus found two thirds of women seeking abortions would have chosen life for their babies if they had better support.

On Monday, however, Pritzker announced plans to devote even more resources to promoting abortion, including through a new nurse-run hotline, the Chicago Sun Times reports. The total cost for his pro-abortion projects is $23 million, according to Capitol News Illinois.
The Complex Abortion Regional Line for Access, or C.A.R.L.A, is scheduled to begin taking calls later this month. Through the hotline, nurses will help women arrange abortion appointments, travel, childcare and funding, according to the report.
The project is a collaboration between several state departments and pro-abortion groups, including the Chicago Abortion Fund and the Illinois Department of Health and Family Services, according to the report.
In addition, Pritzker introduced a new $5 million grant program to help abortion providers expand their practices and establish mobile abortion facilities to kill more unborn babies, the report continues.
The governor invoked the name of President Abraham Lincoln to support his pro-abortion projects, while attacking other states for trying to protect unborn babies.
“In the 13 months since the Supreme Court made the retrograde and disruptive decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, 14 states have outright banned abortions, stripping Americans of their rights to privacy, bodily autonomy and freedom,” he said during a news conference Monday. “But in the Land of Lincoln, we’ve doubled down on our commitment to maintain and expand reproductive health access for patients and protect providers.”
Pritzker’s new abortion initiative also expands the Medicaid income threshold so that more pregnant mothers can qualify for taxpayer-funded abortions, and establishes plans for a second pro-abortion hotline to help out-of-state pregnant women travel to Illinois to abort their unborn babies, the Sun Times reports.
Illinois has some of the most pro-abortion laws in the country. Last week, pregnancy resource centers sued the state after the legislature passed a law that could shut down pro-life charities. These organizations offer free pregnancy and parenting help to thousands of Illinois families every year.
In 2021, the state legislature also ignored the public’s wishes and voted to repeal the parental notification law, which required at least one parent to be notified before their underage daughter has an abortion.
That same year, 46,243 unborn babies were killed in abortions, according to statistics from the state health department. The number increased in 2022 after neighboring states enacted laws to protect unborn babies and Illinois leaders began promoting abortion tourism.
Polls consistently show Americans support laws that protect unborn babies from abortion, especially after the first trimester or once their heartbeat is detectable. Most also support common-sense restrictions such as parental consent for minors and bans on taxpayer funding for elective abortions.
