‘Rohit Sharma’s India Strong Contender To Win World Cup 2023’: Eoin Morgan
INDIAN cricket team has a golden opportunity to end its ICC title drought when the country hosts the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. India broke the jinx and became the first team in history to win the ODI World Cup as hosts in 2011.
The next World Cup was hosted by Australia who ended up claiming a record fifth title win. In 2019, England won the marquee event as hosts. The 2023 World Cup will be hosted by India and the Rohit Sharma-led side will be looking to continue the trend.
The Men in Blue last won an ICC trophy in 2013 when MS Dhoni led the team to win in Champions Trophy. Since then, Indian cricket team has come close to winning the titles many times but choked in the semifinal and finals.
Former England captain Eoin Morgan, who led the team to win in the 2019 World Cup, feels that team India is one of the strong contenders to win the ODI World Cup.
“The team has formidable skills, and can, indeed, be strong contenders in the upcoming World Cup. They also need to engage with and learn from the experiences of those who participated in the 2011 World Cup,” Morgan said in an interview with WION.
India Thrash West Indies To Seal ODI Series 2-1
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team defeated West Indies by 200 runs in the final ODI to seal the series 2-1. India experimented in the ODI series and rested Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the second and third ODI.
The youngsters flopped in the second game but bounced back to give West Indies a real thrashing in the series decider. Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, and Sanju Samson scored half-centuries to help India post 351-5 before the team bowled out West Indies for 151.
