The Nation's Weather for Wednesday, August 2, 2023
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
The Northeast will continue with a pattern more typical of
mid-September rather than early August in terms of the
temperature and humidity levels today. High pressure from
Canada will slide across the region. Meanwhile, blistering
heat is forecast to reside over Texas and Oklahoma through
this week. This heat dome will lead to batches of drenching
showers and severe thunderstorms that travel along the
western, northern and eastern edges. Some of the storms can
bring high winds and hail, while rain may be heavy and
recurring enough to trigger flash floods. A few storms are
also in store for the Southeast and the Great Basin. The
storms in the West may bring lightning strikes that could
ignite wildfires where little rain falls, but where heavy
rain manages to occur, a flash flood risk will exist.
