Templegate opts for a Swinger and Quinella Glorious Goodwood bet as World Pool continues
SINCE it started at Royal Ascot four years ago, billions have been punted with the World Pool.
It is the international tote with punters from all over the globe all paying in and taking each other on.

That should mean bigger payouts and it always at least matches SP on your win bets.
But there’s a lot more on offer than that with seven different wagers on offer.
You can have a straight Win or Place, a Quinella, Swinger, Exacta, Trifecta and Treble where you pick the winner in three selected races – across the five days.
I like to try a Swinger where you pick two of the first three past the post in any order.
You could also have a combination Swinger which includes more than two horses.
What is the World Pool?
- The World Pool is a collaboration between several countries around the world, allowing bettors to bet into the same pool as those countries on specific racedays.
- In total, 2023 will have 18 World Pool events across the UK and Ireland.
- Being able to bet into the same pool as the likes of Hong Kong, Australia, France and the US generates greater liquidity while also being able to go against fellow bettors from across the globe.
- This means that punters can place larger, more significant bets without having an impact on a horse’s price.
- For example, if you’d placed a £1 bet on each winner across 2022’s 17 World Pool days in Britain and Ireland, you’d have a 16% higher return compared to the usual, standard SP.
- Significant differences can arise from the price offered on World Pool to that offered by the bookmakers, particularly with jockeys and trainers with international profiles generally being over-bet, with lesser known connections overlooked.
If you have three running for you it costs £3 and four horses is £6 but you can go bigger if you fancy it. If any two of your picks finish in the first three home, you get a payout.
We’ll try the Richmond Stakes (2.25) and go for Irish raider Unquestionable along with Vandeek and Asadna. Let’s hope they can fight out the finish.
A Quinella is the same as a reverse forecast so your two runners must be first and second past the post in any order.
Again, you can increase your chances by picking more than two horses.
Having three in your Quinella will cost £3 and we’ll have a crack at the Gordon Stakes (3.00) with Espionage, Artistic Star and Desert Hero.
