Vera’s Brenda Blethyn pays emotional tribute to co-star after ‘wrapping’ on ITV filming
VERA’S Brenda Blethyn penned a heartfelt tribute to one of the show’s directors on social media.
Brenda announced on Twitter that filming for the ITV drama series had ‘wrapped up’ after episode 53.
Brenda has played the character of DCI Vera Stanhope since 2011, and as filming concluded, she took to Twitter and paid an emotional tribute to one of her ‘favourite directors’ and a ‘total joy’ Jermain Julien.
The 77-year-old penned: “Just wrapped on Vera ep 53 directed by Jermain Julien.
“He has shot into my list of favourite directors. A total joy. Thank you.”
Excited fans quickly replied to her tweet as one user said: “Can’t wait to watch the new series, hope it happens sooner than later here in Australia Best wishes to you, Ms Blethyn.”
A second wrote: “Love watching you in Vera, it’s like taking a mini Northumberland holiday, but with a crime to solve… win-win!!”
Another followed: “Can’t wait to watch from the great State of Texas! Fabulous show!! I’ve watched all episodes at least 3 times.”
A fourth expressed: “Really need Brenda back a bit of joy in this awful year.”
While another person wondered: “Can’t wait for new series and seeing Joe again. Love the relationship they had. Be interesting to see the changes.”
The Vera cast have also posted behind-the-scenes pictures of themselves on set filming for the ITV drama.
In a recent Instagram post Riley Jones, who plays Mark Edwards, posted a picture of the crew on set while Brenda shot a scene with her TV sidekick Joe Ashworth (played by David Leon).
He captioned the post: “On track for another great episode!”
David left the police drama in 2014 but will make a dramatic return in the upcoming series as he replaces Kenny Doughty.
When asked about his return to Vera in a new interview, David said: “I’m thrilled to be returning to Vera.
“It’s fantastic to be back in the North East and reunited with Brenda and the crew for the new series.
Brenda commented on his comeback and said: “It’s been such a pleasure to work alongside Kenny and Ibinabo.
“They’ve both been terrific members of the Vera team, and I’ll miss them.
“I’m absolutely over the moon to welcome David back to the show and can’t wait to get started.”
