BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty bids farewell to co-star as they leave broadcaster after 16 years
BBC Breakfast‘s Naga Munchetty took to social media to bid farewell to her co-star, after 16 years on the BBC.
Naga, 47, took wished her colleague and political correspondent Jonathan Blake ‘congratulations’ after he announced he is leaving the BBC.
After 16 years at the BBC, Jonathan has quit BBC news and will be joining Headland Consultancy.
Headland Consultancy is a “communications consultancy powered by collaboration.”
Jonathan spent 17 years at the BBC starting out as a U.S reporter on Radio 1 Newsbeat.
He spent 7 months as a presenter on the World Services before being appointed a political correspondent in March 2018.
Taking to Twitter on Friday, Jonathan wrote: “Some news from me… After 16 years at the BBC and two decades as a journalist it’s time for change and a new challenge.
“Tough to say goodbye to so many fab friends and colleagues but thrilled to be joining the brilliant team at @HeadlandComms very soon!”
Naga wished her colleague well and penned: “Congratulations! At least we get to chat to you @BBCBreakfast this morning before you go. x”
Jonathan replied to her tweet and said: “thank you Naga! yes, not quite done yet :)”.
Other BBC presenters followed Naga in congratulating the journalist, such as football commentator Jacqui Oatley.
She tweeted: “Big loss to the BBC. You’ve done an excellent job. Best of luck with your next chapter.”
BBC Martine Croxall presenter said: “Great loss to us, JB. Good luck!”
News anchor Rich Preston commented: “I’m so sorry we’re losing you, Jonathan! Huge loss for us. Your reports have always been very sharp.”
“Always really appreciated having you as a colleague and wishing you all the best with your next adventure.”
Correspondent Rajini Vaidyanathan added: “Wow Blakey! Big news! Big loss.
“While everyone here is quite rightly praising your stellar time at MB as a network Pol corr, I’ll also remember you at yalding newsreader w the golden voice, tech reporter, NY and of course, in the best job at the BBC – Radio 1 Pol Ed! Go well! x”
