My sister gave her son a Yellowstone themed name – she’s mad I called it stupid but he’s facing a lifetime of bullying
A WOMAN whose nephew was heading for a Yellowstone-themed birth name has called his mom – her sister – stupid.
The name choice was sheer madness, she said, and he was going to face a lifetime of bullying because of it.
But her sister responded by calling her an a**hole for being so frank in her opinions.
So she took the issue to the online forum Reddit for some clarity and reassurance.
There were over four thousand comments to her post and the universal feeling was that she was right to condemn the name.
She explained the background behind their falling out.
“My sister is obsessed with the show Yellowstone. Her husband is willing to do anything to make her happy.”
The baby’s name revelation shocked her: “They want to name their baby Cowboy.
“I know I should have kept my mouth shut, I just know the absolute sh*t that kid will go through.”
She tried to reason with her for the child’s sake: “So I told her to consider that she was naming a person who would eventually be an adult.”
This lady admitted to some experience with strange monikers.
“Our mom and dad at least had the decency to only give me Danger as a middle name. Yes, I’ve seen the f*cking movie,” she said.
“She thinks I’m an a**hole for calling her name choice stupid.
“I think I’m trying to save him from a lifetime of bullying until he legally changes his name.”
Commenters were staggered by the name choice and agreed, it was not great.
“I can imagine a lot of Brokeback Mountain jokes being made when he’s young. It’ll be an old reference by then but I’m sure it won’t stop bullies. You are not the a**hole,” was the view of this person.
Another said: “In the words of country legend Willie Nelson, ‘Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys.'”
This guy did not mince his words: “It’s ****ing ridiculous.”
A veteran teacher begged her to consider another name: “I thought I had heard all the awful names. Nope, this one makes it to the top Five.
“Tell your sister a teacher, who will have to call out that name at school every day, is telling her it is a terrible idea.”
This reader said the name did not bode well for future relationships: “One day, a woman will break his heart and say she wants a Cowman, not a Cowboy.”
